Virgin Atlantic is putting the glitz and glamour back into flying, with a new “complimentary” helicopter city transfer for Upper Class passengers arriving into Tokyo’s Narita airport.

High flyers seated in first class, or with eligible business class tickets can now be flown from the airport into downtown Tokyo in just 30 minutes on Virgin’s “V-copter” – a journey that would normally take 70 minutes by train.

With a flight time of just 11 minutes, the chopper parks up on the rooftop of the Ark Mori building in the central Akasaka district of Tokyo, where Virgin’s customers will then be chauffeured by car to their final destination.

The service is available for Virgin Atlantic operated flights and not all Air Nippon codeshare services.

Qualifying customers must also be travelling in the right fare class. Virgin Atlantic has four booking classes in Upper Class: Z (the lowest), R, D, and J (the highest). Z class tickets are not eligible for the chauffeur transfer services.

With return airfares from London to Tokyo costing upwards of £6,699, today’s jetset glamour may still be confined to the premium cabins, but economy travellers can still enjoy a treat or two while being served in the skies.

Virgin Atlantic’s one-stop online shop allows its customers to pre-order celebratory items, ranging from jewellery and champagne to cupcakes and chocolates, which are personally delivered by cabin crew to your loved ones in-flight.
