The Divorce Hotel: where couples check in to check out divorced

A company is offering couples in the Netherlands the chance to check into a luxury hotel for a quick divorce.

The “Divorce Hotel” concept offers a speedy divorce getaway break where the legal paperwork is arranged over a three day weekend, in the comforts of a luxury hotel.

The fee, which starts at €2,500 (£2,075) includes legal advice and a meeting at the hotel with a mediator, who prepares the divorce paperwork and helps couples to make decisions about splitting assets and visitation rights for children.

Couples are put up at the hotel during the process (separately if requested).

Jim Halfens, the Dutch entrepreneur behind the concept told Sky News: “When they leave the hotel, all work is done.”

“The only thing that happens then in Dutch law is that they have to show the agreement to a judge in the Netherlands and that takes a couple of weeks.”

The Divorce Hotel assesses every applicant through interviews and only accepts couples who are not caught up in a bitter dispute.

The service is being offered at a number of high-end hotels around the country.

Halfens is believed to be exploring the potential of expanding the service to the US and Germany.
