Hello Kitty’s march to world domination continues, this time with the opening of the cartoon cat’s first themed spa in Dubai.
Fans of the kitsch Japanese brand can pop in for a ‘kitty-cure’ – the Hello Kitty version of a manicure – or for a hair do, facial or makeover in a pink, girly girl setting (you wouldn’t expect anything else).
The new spa – in Jumeirah town centre – also doubles as a ‘Kitty café’ and serves up Kitty-themed cupcakes alongside flavoured teas.
Japan’s white bobtail cat has become something of a global celebrity since she was created in 1974- and is quite the frequent flyer.
A familiar face on EVA Airways
Taiwan’s EVA Airways flies a small fleet of kitty-themed passenger jets on intra-Asian routes – and it hasn’t stopped at painting its fuselage in Kitty. In the cabin, the cat adorns everything from the seat covers, to the in-flight cutlery and cabin crew aprons.
Taoyuan Airport in Taiwan is also home to a Hello Kitty-themed gate.
And there is no shortage of landmarks devoted to the brand in China, where a Hello Kitty themed restaurant opened in Beijing earlier this year.
