Travellers passing through London Heathrow can put whatever perceptions they may have of airport food aside, at least for the next three weeks.
The excitement over London Restaurant Festival – which ended yesterday – is spilling over to Heathrow, where passengers are being offered a taste of world cuisine before boarding their plane.
‘Destination Feastival’, the airport’s three-week long foodie event got underway this week.
Nearly 60 restaurants, bars and cafés across Heathrow’s terminals are taking part in the airport’s first Destination ‘Feastival’ event – and are rustling up one-off specialty dishes, with something to suit everyone’s palette – from British, Japanese and Indian to Russian cuisine.
The event brings with it live musical performances and food and drink promotions to the airport’s participating dining venues.
In Terminal 5, Gordon Ramsey’s Plane Food is bringing a taste of India to the event, with entertainment from a Bollywood violinist and a special menu of special chicken and cashew nut curry. The dish is accompanied by a specially-created Cuban strawberry and chilli mojito (pictured left).
In Terminal 1, Giraffe has launched a special World Tasting Platter and in Terminal 3, Yo! Sushi has added bento boxes to its regular menu.
While Starbucks outlets in Terminals 3, 4 and 5 will be running taste testing sessions where passengers can find their favourite blend of coffee.
‘Destination Feastival’ runs from October 17 to November 6.
