Britain has the best B&Bs in the world, according to TripAdvisor

Six of the world’s top 10 B&Bs reviewed by travellers were in England and two in Scotland, according to Tripadvisor’s Travellers Choice Awards.

Britain offers some of the best bed and breakfasts in the world, claims traveller review website TripAdvisor.

Six of the world’s top 10 B&Bs reviewed by travellers were in England and two in Scotland, according to Tripadvisor’s annual Travellers Choice Awards.

‘The Twenty One’ – a Regency townhouse in Kemp Town, Brighton topped the list based on an “excellent” rating by 97 percent of the 866 guests who posted reviews of their stay.

Last year’s winner, the Old Manse at Invermoriston in the Scottish Highlands followed in second place and in third place was the Riverside Hotel – a B&B in Ambleside in the Lake District.

Tripadvisor said the findings were based on the most highly rated reviews left by guests and the quantity and recency of reviews.

It added that the top 10 list came out of reviews of more than 23,000 British B&Bs and a number from around the world, but it did not specify how many were assessed outside the UK.

B&B’s – which are often seen as the antidote to the chain hotel – have a long history in Britain.

VisitEngland said of the findings: “It’s no surprise that we rule the roost when it comes to B&Bs. We invented the concept back in the Middle Ages and in the last decade we reinvented it with boutique B&B’s springing up around the countryside.”
