If the idea of a European ski break appeals but you’re not tempted by the prospect of shared chalets or half-board hotels, here’s a stylish, unusual alternative…
In Switzerland, you can sleep on the slopes under canvas in one of 15 pods nestled in the idyllic village of Les Cerniers in the Swiss Alps.
The igloo-shaped tents at ‘Whitepod’ luxury resort all have high-spec interiors, so there’s no chance of getting frostbite as each pod is equipped with a wood burner.
Behind the zipped canvas door, luxury touches include a king-sized bed, sheepskin blankets, plush ‘organic’ bedding and even a full bathroom.
For those who want to get out and enjoy the white stuff, there’s 7kms (4 miles) of private ski slopes and a range of activities on offer, including dog-sledding, skiing and snowboarding, paragliding and hiking with a mountain guide.
The pods are dotted around a traditional wooden chalet, which has its own restaurant and bar and even a spa.
Who said camping in winter had to be an endurance?
The damage: from €325 (£270) a night (weeknights) based on two people sharing a pod.
