Pop-up park opens in Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5

The airport wants to get passengers in the holiday mindset.

London Heathrow garden

Heathrow’s Terminal 5 has become the unlikely setting for an indoor garden – and there’s no sign of those hard plastic seats invading the space either: just picnic tables, synthetic grass, real hedges and rosemary bushes.

The park is open to passengers over the next few weeks and aims to be a pleasant diversion from the humdrum of the airport.

It follows research that shows Brits take an average of eight days to relax while on holiday.

Heathrow’s food outposts are also selling picnics that passengers can take into the park.

The airport expects more than 1.5 million passengers to pass through its doors during half term next week.

Carol Stokes, head of passenger experience, said: “We wanted people to feel they start their holiday here, rather than feeling stressed.”

The park will stay open until November 4.
